Importance of Mathematics & Mathematicians

It is said that mathematics is the Mother of all Science. Mathematics is the beginning of all creations, without which the world cannot move a centimeter. Mathematics is used by all persons. Be it a farmer or a mechanic or a doctor, an engineer or a scientist, a musician or everyone needs mathematics in their day-to-day life.

Mathematics is the mother of all Science

Some of the most important benefits of Learning Mathematics are as follows

1. Learning math is good for brain

Research indicates that children who are better in math has greater IQ than those who perform more poorly in math.  The brain regions involved in higher math skills in high-performing children were associated with various cognitive tasks involving visual attention and decision-making.

2. Math helps you with your finances

Math is helpful for balancing your budget because you will have a good understanding of how to make sure that your costs are less than the money you have.

3. Math helps us have better problem-solving skills

Math helps us think analytically and have better reasoning abilities.  Analytical thinking refers to the ability to think critically about the world around us.  Reasoning is our ability to think logically about a situation.

4. Practically every career uses math in some way.

As said earlier, all persons use mathematics. Not only Mathematicians and scientists rely on mathematical principles to do the most basic aspects of their work but farmers, carpenters, shopkeepers, People working in a factory must be able to do mental arithmetic to keep track of the parts on the assembly line. Really, all work requires math.

5. Math can help you shop for a good sale

your math skills can also help you shop.  For example, to quickly calculate a discounted price, or to determine whether you’ve been correctly charged when paying for a shirt at the store.  You don’t need a Ph.D. in math to develop some quick mental arithmetic skills; they can help you in these and other areas of your life in the long run.

6. Math is a universal language

Sure, it’s mostly equations, numbers, and some Greek letters, but math is understood the same virtually all over the world!  A math equation doesn’t need to be translated to another language to be understood by someone on the other side of the planet.

mathematician is someone who uses an extensive knowledge of mathematics in their work, typically to solve mathematical problems. Mathematicians are concerned with numbers, data, quantity,  structure, space, models, and change. Mathematicians usually cover a breadth of topics within mathematics in their undergraduate education, and then proceed to specialize in topics of their own choice at the graduate level. In some universities, a qualifying exam serves to test both the breadth and depth of a student’s understanding of mathematics; the students, who pass, are permitted to work on a doctoral dissertation.

There is no Nobel Prize in mathematics, though sometimes mathematicians have won the Nobel Prize in a different field, such as economics, Physics. Some Great Physicist are great Mathematicians also. Like Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein. Prominent prizes in mathematics include the Abel Prize, the Chern Medal, the Fields Medal, the Gauss Prize.

There are following major field of Mathematicians

1. Applied Mathematicians

“Applied mathematics” is a broad term used to describe the field of mathematicians who address problems in the real world. Applied mathematicians work in all fields of science, engineering and industry. Applied mathematics focuses on studying and forming mathematical models that apply directly to practical problems.

2. Pure Mathematicians

Any person starts to study mathematics with this part. Pure mathematics is pursued largely to discover new insights into mathematics itself, not necessarily to address problems in the real world. A main concept of pure mathematics is generality. Pure mathematicians seek to generalize mathematical concepts to apply to a large variety of different branches of mathematics. Fields of study include such branches as calculus, number theory, abstract algebra, geometry, co-ordinate geometry and real analysis.

3. Numerical Analysts

The field of “numerical analysis” deals with all kinds of numerical calculations, especially study and experimentation with computer algorithms to approximate solutions to problems in science and engineering. As the power of computers has increased exponentially, the field of numerical analysis has grown to utilize this power to great benefit. The primary goal for the numerical analyst is to give very accurate approximations to difficult mathematical problems. Some of the specialized fields of study within this broad branch include optimization problems, computing the values of difficult functions, solving systems of equations, and evaluating integrals.

4. Theoretical Physicists

It include electromagnetic theory, quantum mechanics and relativity, classical mechanics and statistical mechanics. Theoretical physicists are typically interested in physical systems and how they work. The main goal of the field is to understand the universe at its most basic level in a mathematical framework. These mathematicians attempt to discover patterns in the behavior of the universal makeup, and they use mathematics to create laws based on these patterns.

5. Statisticians

The field of statistics involves the use of mathematical techniques and computers to analyze data from the areas of business and science. Statisticians collect and organize data so that it can be accurately interpreted and utilized in the real world. Specialists such as mathematical statisticians are concerned with the theoretical study of the broader subject.
